In the Beginning

earth begins 114

Inspired by the liveliness of the figures I make…I wrote this….

In the beginning wild women
we were, inventing civilization slowly
because we wanted to savor things.

Remember how we leaned on the earth
and learned safe?
Followed the night sky and found place?
How we absorbed the phases of the moon
to mark time?
Watched for signs that marked
all species comings and goings?

Remember how we learned impeccable taste
to separate food from folly?
Learned to count to birth a babe?
And carried everything with us
when circumstances moved us on?

Remember how, apprenticed to Mother Earth,
we found a million ways to weave and waddle?

If a figure from my collection resonates with you,
it could be your ancestor too.
